Soothed My Grief
A precious friend gave this to me just after my father died last month. It was the most timely, wonderful thing I have ever received. It expressed her desire to comfort and protect me and her understanding that what I was going through wasn't easy....and there wasn't much she could do except show me she cared. What a gift.

A voluptuous and heart-touching book that speaks to the soul
Give this to anyone who is a softy at heart and who loves beauty, flowers, and poetry. Magical reproductions. Each page could be framed.

A feel good book
As an artist and writer and avid reader; I love this book. I read it whenever I want to feel good. I can't wait until Christmas to give it to my artist friends. It is truly one of the most beautiful books I have ever seeen. The art images are beautiful and the spirit of the book is beautiful. I sent it to my new grandson and hope all these wishes come true for him. I can't wait to read it to him when he is older.

One Satisfied Customer....
As we all know, these people who write these books are'nt going to share every secret of the industry, but this book will bring you closer to those well hidden secrets. I have never bought a book that was so detailed in every aspect from hygiene, nails, hair braiding, weaving, cutting, and styling. I was very much so satisfied with the photos, illustrations, and information given in this book. Its is in fact all worth every penny.

Very good book for relaxed heads.
I have read many hair care books and this one is the best for relaxed hair. It is a text book. It has great pictures and step by step instructions. If you want to know how to wrap, fingerwave, make a basic roll, how to apply a relaxer, color etc, this book is for you. Better than a hair care magazine that shows mostly weaved hair. I'm a natural curly girl but I don't have a problem with healthy relaxed hair.

go go baby
I am a beautiful black woman.

All Aboard With E.M. Frimbo: World's Greatest Railroad Buff (Kodansha Globe)
Published in Paperback by Kodansha International (April, 1997)
Authors: Tony Hiss, Mark Livingston, and Rogers E. M. Whitaker
Average review score:

"Get on a train!"
The old nostalgic ways of travel -- railroad trains and ocean liners -- have a romance to them that cars and airplanes just can't match. Rogers E.M. Whitaker, the man behind the pseudonymous E.M. Frimbo, and his sometime collaborator, Tony Hiss, capture some of that romance and interest in these essays by and about the world's greatest railroad buff. Detailing some of Whitaker/Frimbo's great train experiences from the '30s to the '70s, and recapturing the all-but-vanished world of life on the rails, the pieces gathered here make for fascinating and evocative reading.

As with any collection of essays, some of the chapters here are better than others. And generally, I found the chapters added to this "greatly expanded edition" to be less satisfying than the earlier ones, though the obituary of Whitaker and the long closing piece, "Frimbo's Peak," were both rather moving. Much of Tony Hiss's preface I could likewise have done without. His predictions for the revival of government-funded passenger rail in the early years of the twenty-first century seem, fortunately, not yet to be coming to pass. But then, it wouldn't be the first time a Hiss was on the wrong side of history.

But don't let the preface distract you. The essays themselves are by and large great reading, and have me hoping to hop a train before too much longer myself. Whether you're an inveterate train buff, a long-time Frimbo fan, or just a fan of great travel writing, I recommend grabbing this book and taking to the rails, if only in your mind.

A book for all ages
I read this book as an 11 year old boy, and still remembered it over all these years as a wonderful railroading book. It really captured the glamour and joy of passenger rail travel in those days.

And I was excited and thrilled when I met Tony Hiss by chance on the Boston-NYC shuttle, and he told me that the book had been reissued and was available on Amazon. I (virtually) ran right out and purchased it...as much for my 9 year old (also a rail fan) as for myself.

An infectiously enjoyable ode to the joys of train travel
I was the editor of the greatly expanded 1997 edition of this railroading classic of the 1970s. E.M. Frimbo was the alter ego of Whitaker, a writer who spent more than 50 years at the New Yorker, one of the original coterie that included A.J. Liebling, Joseph Mitchell, and others. Beginning in the 1940s, Frimbo began chugging through the pages of the magazine, right up to and beyond Whitaker's death in the early 1980s. In the 1960s, Tony Hiss had come along and become Whitaker's collaborator on these travel essays. When Hiss began to assemble this new edition, he discovered many pieces that were not in the earlier edition, so the book grew by 50%, and includes many photos of Whitaker never published before. Hiss unearthed such articles as one about the railway in Wales that travels through the Potemkin village where the classic TV show "The Prisoner" was filmed, and a final tribute to Whitaker, appropriately mounted to him at Cumbres Pass, the highest elevation in the USA reached by a train. If you have affection for the open (rail)road, then you will love this book.

All Through the Night

Great Christian Novel
This novel is inspiring as is all Grace Livingston Hill novels. It makes you realize how God touches everyone and how he is so amazing.

All Through the Night
I've read this book time and time again, and every time, I like it more. The main character is a girl by the name of Dale whose grandmother has just died. Right in the middle of her grief, several of her relatives arrive. Rather than caring about her, these rude, obnoxious and unfeeling people have no reason for being there except to get money that was supposedly left to them. At this same time, Dale's beloved leaves to go to war, and this is one of the things that carries her through the trying times ahead. No matter what her family says or does to her, she has the memory of her beloved across the sea, who is waiting patiently to be allowed to return to her. And through it all, her Savior carries her through all of her trials, so that she never returns hurt for hurt, even when her heart seems to be breaking. Maybe, when its all through, her selfish family will actually see something in her that they don't have, and maybe they'll change because of it.

All Through the Night
I have read this book several times, and I enjoy it more every time. The story is about a girl whose grandmother has just died, and in the midst of her grief, unwelcome relatives arrive. As unfeeling, rude, and obnoxious as they act, the girl does not return wrong for wrong. Through it all, she has the memory of her Savior who will bring her through every trial that comes along, and also, that there is a young man somewhere who loves her. Knowing that her beloved is across the ocean, at war, and waiting to return to her, and that her Savior loves and cares for her is just what she needs to carry her through it all. And just maybe, her relatives will see something in her, that they've never seen in anyone else, and maybe they can change, too.

Christmas Bride
This book is so sweet and so romantic! I bought 10 of them for Christmas gifts! Anything by Grace Livingston Hill is a must read.

An excellent book by a great author.
When Greg Sterling returns to his home town, he finds the second love of his life - he had just found the first on his return when a new friend introduced him to our Lord. Amazingly his second love is a Christian as well and after a period of trials, they find a unique love blessed by the Lord.

I've probably read this book at least a dozen times. It's one of my favorites by this great author.

Answers all of your basic questions...
This is a great book for any guy who wishes to meet a female from another country! Any of your questions or concerns will probably be covered somewhere in this book. Just to mention several of the many topics discussed are: Placing & responding to international personal ads, culture differences, international introduction services, visas & marriage & making the most of your trip. The author also discusses in detail the women & environment of over a dozen countries including Thailand, Brazil, DR, Scandinavia, Cuba and others. Besides being informative, this is also an entertaining read. I mainly read this for entertainment purposes and can definately relate to it as I have travelled to a couple of the countries mentioned in the book. I recommend this book to those who are serious about starting on the path to meet an international mate or to those just enjoy international travel and meeting people in the places they travel to.

It's Hard to Meet People...not anymore!
I never had troubles meeting women, but they always seemed to want to be with other men. So I bought this book so that I could meet women that maybe I wouldn't say the wrong things, or maybe because I was famous that might like that. Let me say, I really liked it. Anyone that can read it, and wants to find women that won't right away leave them, should read it. The woman that I met had to move back, but there will be many more, thanks to Fantasy Islands!

A excellent source.
I think that Fantasy Islands is a great source for the international bridebusiness for I Agree with the book and other sources 100% that the international Marrages work out much better then our domestic Marriagesanytime.

Homing

Author: Grace Livingston Hill
Average review score:

wonderful story, end of great series
I read this book in the 60's, and loved it deeply then. It has held up well. I'd be hard pressed to say whether I like this book or _Dawn's Early Light_ (the first story in the series) best. It is probably best appreciated after reading the first book in the series. They form the bookends of a wonderful series about several intertwined families on both sides of the Atlantic from the American Revolution through World War II. The editions I read as a kid had family trees on the endpapers, and they were a great help.
_Homing_ recounts the story of Mab, a young girl, and her extended family, through the beginning of WW II. Although I am not a historian, I have not ever encountered a historical event in one of Ms. Thane's books that was contradicted by any history I have read. She makes history immediate and real by showing how characters you care about are affected by historical events. The history is background to the story; although it contributes significantly to the plot, I never felt I was being lectured. Characterizations ring true; I came to care deeply about the people in the story. There are ways in which this book, and the whole series, remind me of the books of Rosamunde Pilcher - the are populated by people I'd like to meet, coping with their lives.

a pleasant read for women of all ages, 18 to 80.
The last of the Williamsburg Series, Homing brings you full circle back to the past. The best way to read this book is after you have read the others, beginning with "Dawn's Early Light". I first read them when I was a teenager and I still read them every couple of years. The characters are like family or maybe the way we would like family to be.

A satisfying conclusion to the story of an extended family.
This is the conclusion to the Williamsburg Novels that begins with Dawn's Early Light. The characters continue to ring true and the historical view of both England and the US during the early days of WWII is great. The story truly comes full circle and makes you want to read them all again.

The Involved Father: Family-Tested Solutions for Getting Dads to Participate More in the Daily Lives of Their Children

Authors: Kathryn Livingston, Robert, Ph.D. Frank, and Livingston Frank

If you get only one fathering/parenting book, get this one!
If you get only one fathering/parenting book, this is the one to get. It covers everything from the importance of dad's involvement to child development to spousal communications and more. Bob Frank has been on the forefront of fathering trends for years and has many years of experience as both a parent and a family therapist.

Highly Recommended.

This book is gold for parents partnering to raise children.
As a 50-year old looking back at my parenting experiences, I found this book reassuring in those things that I did right and revealing about those things I could have done better. It is a book not just for fathers. It would be a mistake to give it to a father and say,"Here, this is what you must do." It is a book to be read and experienced together by parents willing to create a partnership in raising their children. The book covers concerns from before the baby's birth through young adulthood. It offers a wealth of anecdotes and practical suggestions to help parents nurture and guide their children while maintaining a balanced parenting relationship. I wish I had this book before my first child was born, but, it is not simply another "newborn parent" offering. If I had received this book at any stage of my children's development, I would have found it insightful and helpful. I plan to send it to son, daughters, nieces, and nephews. A great gift to be given by a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, or friend. Robert Frank's professionalism and caring shines through.

Every Father should read this book!
Dr Frank really understands today's family and offers valuable advice for father's. I recommend it be REQUIRED reading for every father. This book will help you become more in touch with your children and you will gain a better understanding of why your role as an involved father is so important in their life!
